AKATHARTA is the brainchild of Death Metal legend Kam Lee, who used to be a part of the short-lived Mantas that eventually became Death. After which, Kam went on to join Massacre and later on with Denial Fiend.
Formerly known as Urizen and eventually naming the band AKATHARTA, the idea was conceived around 2004 to play the most crushing and devastating Funeral Doom / Drone style.
AKATHARTA consists of members from Death Grind band Cropsy Maniac, with Aaron Whitsell taking care of guitar and bass duties and Travis Ruvo handling drum duties.
The AKATHARTA band logo was designed by the infamous Lord Of Logos Christophe Szpajdel, who had worked with iconic bands such as Emperor, Old Man's Child, Enthroned, etc.
The album cover artwork was designed and drawn by Malaysian illustrator Irwan Ironworx Gravefix (Bone Gnawer, Deathevoker, Thorns Of Hate, etc).

Conceived as far back as 1999 – under the moniker URIZEN, this band/project is the nightmarish dreamchild of death metal frontman Kam Lee. Finally changing the name to AKATHARTA in around the early 2000s and settling with it. Kam always envisioned and wanted to form a band with music that expresses the paranormal and complete feeling of dread and doom of the grave and beyond. After several false starts and many member changes going back as far as 2006. It has taken nearly 16 years to finally find the right musicians to bring this dream/nightmare to reality.
