PRESS QUOTES: “Jen Cloher is one of the most exciting artists work in Australia today, a master wordsmith renowned for the kind of lyrics you want to either scream at the top of your lungs or get tattooed all over your body. Now she’s back with what seems set to be one of her most uncompromising, unflinching records yet – a collection of songs that will touch on everything from long-distance love to the discovery of personhood. It’s due August 11, so get ready.” -Tone Deaf

“Jen Cloher is far and away the musician’s best record; better, even, than In Blood Memory, her 2013 masterpiece. In fact, it is the record of the year so far –the most fully realised, the most immediate, the most heart wrenching. But more than that, it is the work of a musician who has lost interest in hiding from her audience; a musician who has given up burying her feelings in simile, or using three lines where one will do.” -Tone Deaf

“Aiming for a classic rock feel with an importance on being intimate, on this self-titled album we see Jen Cloher produce her most comprehensive record yet.” - Beat.com

One to watch: Jen Cloher https://www.theguardian.com/music/2017/jul/16/one-to-watch-jen-cloher-milk-records-courtney-barnett “Cloher’s self-titled fourth album features astonishingly candid admissions of how alienated she sometimes felt by her wife’s success. A spiky yet intimate Americana record with the sneer of PJ Harvey and melodies that recall the Breeders, its striking first line finds Cloher shrugging, “You’ve been gone so long you could have been dead.”

Shot at Melbourne's Found Sound instrument store, the skit stars Adalita, Davey Lane (You Am I), Kat Spazzy (The Spazzys), Jen Cloher, and the show’s creator, Laura Imbruglia.”

Stereogum - Jen Cloher – “Regional Echo” Video http://www.stereogum.com/1953635/jen-cloher-regional-echo-video/video/ “The music video, once again directed by Annelise Hickey, is a perfect encapsulation of the song’s lyrical themes.”

THE DISTANCE AND INTIMACY OF JEN CLOHER http://www.mixdownmag.com.au/distance-and-intimacy-jen-cloher “With her current standing in Australian music, many younger listeners of Jen Cloher's probably have no idea that their electric lady was, once upon a time, the great hope of Australian folk-rock. As a part of Jen Cloher and the Endless Sea, Cloher was an ARIA-nominated troubadour with a firm standing in roots and Americana. Last year saw her debut album, 2006's Dead Wood Falls, arrive at its 10th anniversary. By re-releasing the album – making its debut on vinyl – and playing two shows with her original band, Cloher was able to gain a sense of real perspective on the next chapter – looking back in order to move forward.”

Bio

Jen Cloher is a highly respected recording and performing artist and outspoken artist advocate. She also runs one of Australia’s best indie labels (Milk! Records) with partner Courtney Barnett. Since 2014, her regular musical contributions to Milk! Record’s discography of 7″ releases and compilations (all of them punk-rock AF) have been biting, witty and poetic. It’s fair to say that she’s in a purple patch right now as she puts the finishing touches to her fourth studio album and prepares to tour it in late 2017. Cloher’s 2013 album In Blood Memory was a gritty and dynamic performance of venom, wit and pathos. In it, Cloher sings, writes and performs with hyper-intelligence, backed by a formidable trio (Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Courtney Barnett, Bones Sloane and Jen Sholakis). It was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize (Australia’s most prestigious music award) – and rightfully so. The album signified a turning point in Cloher’s career and now her song-writing is admired in music-press around the world. Cloher’s debut album, 2006’s Deadwood Falls was a beacon of folk song-writing craft, receiving an ARIA nomination for best female artist. Her second album, 2009’s Hidden Hands was imbued with heartache and the loss of her mother to Alzheimer’s, a gorgeous follow-up which continued to garner fans across the country. Cloher’s compositional and stylistic approach sits at the artistic zenith of the folk-rock genre. Whilst her musicianship has developed over time, it’s the lyrical content of her songs that have deepened, matured and become far more complex and ambitious. The forthcoming self titled album was recorded by Greg Walker (Machine Translations) and was mixed in the infamous Loft Studios in Chicago by American engineer Tom Schick (Rufus Wainwright and Wilco). Thematically the new album explores the insecurity and the existential dilemma of art and the artist’s place in contemporary society.

In 2012 Cloher founded Milk! Records with Courtney Barnett. Milk! has become one of the most respected independent labels in Australia – winning Best Independent Label at the 2015 AIR Awards. Jen Cloher also founded “I Manage My Music” which has provided workshops and classes to hundreds of self-managed Australian artists. In 2014 she won The Lighthouse Award, an award funded by APRA and given to a Victorian manager for their contribution to the music industry.
